- How do I advertise my open positions to U of M students?
The best way to do this is to post your position on GoldPASS, the online job and internship site available to all U of M students. You can post full-time and part-time jobs, internships and volunteer positions. Other options include posting your position through the U of M Job Center
(call 612-624-4814 for details), or placing an ad in the U of M student newspaper, the Minnesota
Daily.
- Does the College of Liberal Arts do on-campus recruiting?
Yes! The Career and Community Learning Center coordinates on-campus recruiting events for College of Liberal Arts (CLA) students. We schedule these events during fall and spring semesters. You can schedule on-campus recruiting for full-time positions that require a bachelor's degree. You can also schedule on-campus recruiting for internships and co-op positions that require students to be working toward a liberal arts degree. Follow these easy instructions to request an on-campus recruiting event with CLA students.
- Do U of M students have to sign up for credit when doing an internship?
While
the College of Liberal Arts does not require students to obtain credit
for internships, many options exist for students who do want to receive
credit for their experience. Several departments offer courses
specifically for students conducting internships in their field of
study. Students could also earn credit through a Directed Study project
working with a faculty member that ties their internship to their field
of study. Students can get a copy of the Directed Study information in
the Career and Community Learning Center's 135 Johnston Hall office.
- How much should we pay our intern?
There
is no set range for intern salaries. For those organizations that offer
wages, it is helpful to research your field and see what other
organizations in your industry pay. Many
internships listed through our office are paid. Some unpaid
internships offer other compensation such as parking reimbursement or a
stipend. According to the 2008 Experiential Education survey, published by the National Association of Colleges and
Employers, employers hiring "all
majors" reported paying an average of $16.50/hr to their interns and co-op students.
